Of course in small towns there always is a little bit of… upset among the people who live there. This small town has its fair share of problems. It is rather hard to be ignored in towns like these. Everyone knows everyone, as well as their dirty laundry; it cannot be helped. Over five hundred years ago the town was founded by none other than Isabella Tame. It started out as a homely place, people helping people. But over the past few years many things have changed.
Olivia Tame, who is now twenty five and, you guessed it, the great, great, we’re not going to go through all these greats, but she’s the great granddaughter of Isabella Tame. Olivia went away to college, and has now finally returned, to find the town her grandmother had founded so long ago, in an uproar. They started putting in colleges, which was a good thing, a change that needed to happen. The towns’ people on the other hand, didn’t want this to happen. Who knew who’d be attending these colleges? People who would come from out of town, mostly the people trying to avoid or escape the big cities, may destroy everything they'd worked so hard to build; it would not be a good thing in the minds of the towns’ people
While Olivia was away these past few years, a few stores closed down as well. Not that she had anything to do with it, but for some reason the people blamed her. Wasn’t it her ancestor who founded the town, shouldn’t she be doing something about it, or perhaps her father, the mayor, Mr. Adam Tame? There was too much sitting on her shoulders and she decided to stay and help, though it only made the situation worse, it seemed.
Rose McEllen was furious with Olivia. The bakery owner was Olivia’s previous employer and blamed Olivia’s absence for her store going downhill. Once Olivia quit, all of Olivia’s old friend quit coming into the store. She knew it was stupid, but she needed someone to blame for her loss of income, who else was there? And then there was Troy. Troy Stevenson had owned the general store in town, and he blamed her father for the reason why it was no longer running. What was worse was Troy had the biggest crush on Olivia, but heard she had a boyfriend, or fiancé, something like that, and that just made him more upset.
With everyone blaming each other, the town was in an uproar, and Olivia just didn’t know what to do with herself. She tried to use her degree and help her father as much as possible. But would it ever be enough? And would anyone stop blaming each other for one split second and just try to help each other out of this mess they’d gotten themselves in? Olivia was bound and determined to try.
What no one expected, about a year ago, a boy got trapped in a building that they considered as a shelter. Somehow this structure ended up on fire. The boy, Cody, and his friends were trapped. Cody had made it out, but went back in to save his friends. He got a couple out, but one more was trapped with him when the structure finally fell apart and he'd passed away. Olivia was distraught, for Cody was her boyfriend at the time, and she'd loved him with all her heart, he'd always had the power to make her laugh.

So you all may not know the story of the stair people. Let me just make this easier on all of us and sit back and enjoy the story. In Rachel Drake's freshman year, she was just the shy new kid who would never fit in due to the fact that she looked young for her age. She had a few friends just like her, the outcasts. Her best friend at that time happened to be Casey White. They did everything together, including eating lunch.
Now, since the school was separated into its little cliques like every school, Rachel and Casey really didn't know where to sit. If they sat with the preps, Rachel would have to endure an hour of listening to the one person she truly hated Olivia Shane. And then the rest were out of question.
Finally, they just started sitting on the stairs leading down to the Cafeteria. It was comfortable there, and soon the rest of their little group started to join them, still being able to hear the noise coming from the cafeteria, but also not having to endure anyone they hated, or the looks they sometimes got. Every so often they would play hacky sack outside, or just sit out there, leaning up against the doors, but from that point on they became, as Rachel liked to call them, The Stair People.
A couple of years have passed since the creation of the Stair People. All of the originals are there, Rachel, Casey, and their guy friends, John Bach, Sean Pean, and James Gordan. Rachel and Casey went through somewhat of a 'rough patch' but that ruined them, but Rachel quickly got over it, knowing she had more friends now than she had when she'd first moved up to Wisconsin. Also, Casey always made her feel less of a person she was, and ignorant to boot. Rachel is now friends with a recent freshman named Tyronica Shaw. They are better friends than Rachel and Casey have ever been. Everything seemed calm in their little stair case, but things in the school are slowly starting to change.
There are new transfer students coming in, as well as more and more people moving into their little, small, quiet town. Rachel wonders if their little group will last, or if it will break. One thing was for certain. Almost the same time as Cody was trapped in the burning structure; a boy in their school named Josh, had a horrible car accident and was thrown from the car, dyeing instantly. What was happening to their once safe town?

As most of the towns people feared a lot of out of towners came to Orchard Creek University and a lot of them were 'city slickers'. But what the towns’ people didn't realize that with all of these kids coming from out of town there business would pick up even though the kids from town had a rivalry with the new kids coming in. The business around town that were having problems when Olivia had left and the business owners would soon realize that they would have people being able to work for them to help bring in more money. Everyone knows that college kids need to work to keep going to school.
After school had started the out of towners tried to keep to themselves but there were a few who would try to cause trouble in town by saying mean comments about Cody and Josh. The out of towners wanted to believe that they could have saved themselves, but wanted to die because of the town being almost dead and they didn’t have anything better to do. When Olivia found out about some of these rumors or comments she got some of the towns people together and told them that she had heard what some of the out of towners were saying about Cody and Josh. Then some of Cody’s and Josh's closest friends joined together and tried to confront them about the comments and were trying to set the story straight, but fights would only break out every time the two would try to talk.
As the school year went on things just kept getting worse and worse between the two groups. They would put up with each other if they seen each other at the store, gas station or anywhere that grownups would see them. Granted they gave each other the 'evil eye' or would make rude gestures to the others. Olivia got the worst of it because they would make really nasty and rude comments to her about Cody like, "I bet he didn't want to come out of the building because you’re a bitch” or “You wouldn't put out, so he gave up". The towners would comfort her as much as they could, but the out of towners would never understand the hole she had in her heart where his love used to be.
